    Computer Questions Empty Computer Questions

    Post  Aightball 1/11/2011, 2:06 am

I'm using Windows 7 while I try to find a new computer. Considering I'm
probably going to be unable to get a Vista system, I need help with an
    irritating problem.

The quick launch thingy (task bar?) is supposed to customizable. There are
three things I use frequently and I want them pinned to this quick launch
thingy. I want my two external drives and a folder of word documents. Every
time I attempt this, it pins it to windows explorer folder. I tried to unpin
that folder, but it keeps coming back. How do I get these three things out of
that folder and onto the quick launch dealy?

    Help anyone? =)

I just tried it myself and I think it's because they're folders holding files [same with your external hardrives] and not programs that you can't pin them to the taskbar.

I think the only thing you can do is to have them/shortcuts on your desktop and not hidden inside your My Documents/My Computer folder.

I did some dinking around online and found a way to restore the quick launch, which solved the problem. Apparently, the quick launch is automatically disabled in windows 7 Evil or Very Mad , so you have to manually enable it. It was worth it, though =). Sadly, I'll just have to do it again when I get a new computer, but so be it.

Oh so how do you manually enable it?

At least you know how to do it now, though.

Let me find the website for you =). You have to open it manually and the file name is like five miles long!

Okay, the file name isn't quite five miles long, but it is hard to remember after just one time. I suggest using copy and paste!

Thanks for that. But that still doesn't allow us to pin document folders to the taskbar?

Sadly, no. The tutorials I found online didn't work (either because they just don't work or Microsoft is on to those methods) so I'm still searching for that one. But at least we can have the quick launch back and "pin" stuff to that like normal.

I figured out how to do it Very Happy. You have to copy the document folder you want to the Quick Launch folder.

    1. Unlock the taskbar
    2. Right click on Quick Launch section and then click on open folder
    3. Copy and paste shortcut link to folder that you want
