Just one thing to note. Your use of the word 'your'.

This is why I hate the English language. I think you meant to use 'you're' as in 'you are'.

A way to help tell the difference is say it out loud using the full two words Eg.

'and cheer you up when you are sad'. [and cheer you up when you're sad]

Whereas in the first line you use 'your' correctly. [Because, 'I am 'you are' friend', doesn't make sense].
