Re: Random Discussion Thread
I think I'm the only Lazerfest goer on here, so I'm not going to put this under its own header =). If it needs one, holler and I'll move it .
Okay, so, Lazerfest 2011:
Despite the ankle deep mud we stood in and waded through for 10+ hours, Lazerfest 2011 was an amazing experience!
My friend and I kind of dilly dallied our way to the grounds, since the bands we were interested in were on later. Lazer 103.3 offered a free shuttle service to the grounds so we took advantage of that and arrived on the grounds around 1330-1400. We wandered the grounds, got our merch, and started assessing the conditions near the stages. At that time, it wasn’t too bad, but as the day went on, it got much, much worse!
Toward the end of the day, Stone Sour came on (hometown boys!) and we managed to get somewhat close for that show. We’d been moving around the mud pit (there’s really no other way to describe it) during bands working our way closer, as we had a plan for Avenged. =) After the Stone Sour set, as predicted, people started sliding to the other fenced off pit area around the Meskawki Stage. My friend and I decided we were having a hard enough time where we were, so stayed at the Knoxville Raceway stage. We managed to get up to the barrier with about 15 other people and stayed there the remainder of the night. As people left, we inched as close as we could get to Avenged. After all, this was our third time seeing this show, so we wanted to give others the full view who were there for the first time.
It was amazing! They were louder than ever (and harder to photograph than ever!), but they were just full of energy. I swear every time I see them more of that old spirit I see in the old YouTube videos comes back. We didn’t have a good view of Arin, but I could hear that he was on fire last night! I don’t remember the exact setlist, but I know we heard Nightmare, Welcome to the Family, Bat Country, Afterlife, Almost Easy (which is awesome live!), Unholy Confessions and Save Me. Matt said that UC was supposed to be the end of the show (“Time constraints people! Time constraints!”), but they decided to do one really long encore (Save Me) for us instead. The crowd went nuts and it was so amazing to hear live!
At the end of the show, they tossed picks, setlists, and drum sticks as usual. Where we were standing, we just watched, figuring no one was going to come our way. Lo and behold, however, here comes Johnny! We were kind of in no man’s land at that point, but he was kind enough to come over anyway. He threw one pick and I almost caught it. Security picked it up and I got it! It made my year, pretty much, let me tell you! I stay out of the pit because I know I can’t handle it, so that means no picks, drum sticks, or setlists for me. This was really a treat and I hope to get another opportunity again in the future.
Here are my pictures from the night. I only uploaded the clear ones (if anyone wants to see the others, holler, but they’re kind of blurry). I just have a little point and shoot that’s about three years old, so it’s hard to get good pictures with it. These are linked at my Facebook:

Re: Random Discussion Thread
We had a blast! I'm still sore (damn mud!), but it was totally worth it =). I do have more pictures, but the ones there are the clearest. I think every A7X show I get to, I get better and better photos...some day, I'll have all good ones, lol!
When we were making our way out, we'd go wherever we could to find solid-ish grass. Finally, we thought we'd made it! We had all grass all the way...then, we started going up the hill and all at once, we both got STUCK! It was dark and we'd walked right into a huge mud pit :S. It took two helpers, but we both got out and got to the grass and finally the road to line up for the shuttle back to our car. What an adventure, lol!

Re: Random Discussion Thread
sounds like the last day of download last year. it was nice when we woke up so, once again, I donned lightweight trousers and my flipflops. mid afternoon the heavens opened and the place turned into a seething mudpit. I nearly lost my flipflops a couple of times, and I'm still getting mud out of them a year later!

Re: Random Discussion Thread
There were a LOT of abandoned flip flops in this mud pit. The thing is, everyone knew it was going to be like that. It'd been raining for a week or more beforehand! We figured our shit kicker tennies would be good enough but wished we'd had rubber boots instead. There were a lot of people going barefoot and of course, a LOT of mud wrestling!

Hahaha, yeah, think I was the only idiot in flipflops at Download last year.
Can it hurry up and be Tuesday already please? Or at least 6:30pm Sunday? Finish work then and have 2 days off, and Tuesday is my appointment about my knee *crosses everything for a good outcome*

Re: Random Discussion Thread
I was all excited for this afternoon, had the plan of coming home, getting my lunch ready and then sitting down to the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup and then the opening match NZ v Tonga. But no, the bloody cricket is on so the bf is in front of the TV. Still, means I got my ass back on DBC which cannot, under any circumstances, be a bad thing.

*runs in screaming*
That loud enough for you? I promise to try and be more active on here now, call it a New Year's Resolution or whatever. Life's been slightly insane for me the last few months but things are looking like settling down soon, so fingers crossed I'll have time to be the chatterbox I used to be once more!

Re: Random Discussion Thread
It's an insurance sales position with a local, very highly respected firm. No more having to drive an hour each way to work, I could get the bus and it would still only take about 5 mins to get there.
I've worked in insurance before and enjoyed it at the time, and there are loads of chances to move on/develop a career at this firm as they are backed up by a national company with other branches and specialities.
